A Statement of Peace and Reconciliation

On February 27 to March 20, 2001, a group of students under Prof. Tsuoshi Amemiya of Aoyama Gakuin University in Tokyo, Japan visited the Philippines.

Learning about the atrocities that the Japanese Imperial Army committed during its invasion of the country moved the students into sending the following letter. Click the thumbnails for the full sizes.

"We are ashamed to confess that we did not know this undeniable fact of history; that is, Filipinos were totally deprived of their human rights by the Japanese Military, the result being all the brutalities."

I give Professor Amemiya a lot of credit for writing this; for teaching his students about Japanese atrocities and refusing to let Bataan disappear from public memory.

And I also give BBB a lot of credit for posting this so that all of us can read it. I have heard of this letter, but until today had not managed to see a copy.
